Going to a music or art festival is all the rage, and can be a lot of fun for the whole family. Some festivals are suitable for children if you take the proper safety measures and pack the right gear! Keep reading for some helpful tips on attending festivals with your little ones.

Choose a Family-Friendly Festival

Although more and more festivals are becoming family-friendly, there are some that are more suitable for children than others. Do your research and read reviews written by families who have attended festivals in the past.

Bring Your Own Entertainment

While children often love the live entertainment at a festival, their attention spans don’t always last the duration of the event. Bring some kid-friendly entertainment they can play with for back-up. Toys, outdoor games, or even a simple game of catch will help keep kids happy during the long day outside.

Pack Extra Snacks

Food at festivals can get expensive. Be sure to bring extra snacks for the kids so you won’t have to keep buying meals from the food trucks or other vendors.

Take Safety Precautions

Festivals are extremely crowded, so it’s a good idea to take safety precautions in the event of an emergency. Label your child’s clothes with contact information. If your kids are old enough, come up with a meeting spot in case anyone gets lost from the group. For little ones, consider bringing noise-cancelling headphones to protect sensitive ears from loud noises.

Arrive and Leave Early

When you’re attending a festival with children, it’s best to arrive early to find a good spot for setting up. If you get there early enough, you’ll avoid the crowds and be able to find a comfortable spot for your family to sit.

Bring Extra Layers

Even in warmer months, the weather can be unpredictable. Be sure to bring extra layers of clothes so your little ones can bundle up if it gets breezy at night.
